A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Sustainability or fun? Recreational angling in Marine Protected Areas

open access: yesOceanological and Hydrobiological Studies, 2022
Gökova Bay MPAs (southern Aegean Sea, Turkey) include six different no-take zones (NTZs: Akyaka, Çamlı, Akbük, Boncuk-Karaca, İngiliz Limanı, Bördübet), in four of which shore angling is permitted (Akyaka, Çamlı, Akbük, Boncuk-Karaca).

Status-quo management of marine recreational fisheries undermines angler welfare [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2018
Significance Marine recreational fisheries are culturally and economically important around the world. However, they often suffer from management that promotes short seasons, congestion, wasteful allocations of fish, and overfishing. We use survey data from anglers taking trips on for-hire vessels in the US Gulf of Mexico to estimate ...

Stochastic Entanglement of Deterministic Origami Tentacles For Robust Robotic Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces an origami tentacle gripper to robustly grasp objects‐in air, underwater, and even in orbital space‐by exploiting a synergy between local, deterministic deformation programming and global, stochastic entanglements. A single origami tentacle can be designed to coil with a simple tendon pull.

Human dimensions of angler nonresponse in California’s recreational steelhead fishing report card program

open access: yesCalifornia Fish and Wildlife Journal, 2023
Angler demographics and behaviors have a significant impact on recreational fishery-dependent data, and recently, human dimensions have become more widely recognized as an important part of fisheries management.

An Interpretable, Data‐Driven, Hierarchical Multi‐Domain Fusion Framework for Classification and Motor Function Scoring in Chronic Ankle Instability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An AI‐enabled digital twin framework integrates wearable EMG sensing with hierarchical multi‐domain fusion to classify chronic ankle instability, distinguish clinically relevant subtypes, and generate continuous motor function scores. Clinically interpretable functional stratification and SHAP‐based biomarker analysis provide transparent decision ...

Do otters target the same fish species and sizes as anglers? A case study from a lowland trout stream (Czech Republic)

open access: yesAquatic Living Resources, 2017
Stocking of hatchery-reared fish into streams is a common practice in fisheries industry as it provides catches for recreational anglers and support for native fish populations.
