Rectal fistulas after prostate brachytherapy

The etiology, symptoms and diagnosis of the urethro-rectal fistula are described. The surgical treatment with special reference to Whitehead — Young — Stone's operation is discussed. This procedure produced good results in 6 cases of urethro-rectal fistulas. The period of postoperative observation varied from 1 to 11 years.

Repair of Prostato-Rectal Fistula

Full anal control resulted from this unusual approach. This case is of interest in that it records the utilisation for the first time in Gibraltar of an unusual surgical approach to the rectum.

In 20, the fistula was classified as a posterior ischiorectal anal fistula because the internal opening was situated in the middle line posteriorly. The fistulous track ran in the ischiorectal fossa either on one or on both sides.

Urethroperineal-rectal fistula in Crohn's disease
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1983A 19-year-old white male with Crohn's disease, who complained of passing urine per rectum and having retrograde ejaculations, was noted to have a urethroperineal-rectal fistula. The fistulous communication remained patent despite pharmacologic therapy, a diversion ileostomy, and a total proctocolectomy.

[Tuberculous prostato-rectal fistula].
Progres en urologie : journal de l'Association francaise d'urologie et de la Societe francaise d'urologie, 2002In a 60-year-old man admitted for right epididymo-orchitis with scrotal fistula and urine leak via the rectum, the diagnosis of tuberculosis was based on histological examination of a tissue sample of the scrotal fistula. The fistula was successfully treated with tuberculostatic drugs and cystostomy.
