DRCU-Net: A 3D Segmentation Model for Rectal Tumors Based on Deeply Supervised Residual Capsule Networks

open access: yesBig Data Mining and Analytics
Existing Two-Dimensional (2D) rectal tumor segmentation methods struggle to fully exploit the relationships between slices due to the absence of Three-Dimensional (3D) spatial information, while traditional 3D segmentation techniques often suffer from ...

Extramural vascular invasion nomogram before radical resection of rectal cancer based on magnetic resonance imaging

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
PurposeThis study verified the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to construct a nomogram to preoperatively predict extramural vascular invasion (EMVI) in rectal cancer using MRI characteristics.Materials and methodsThere were 55 rectal cancer ...

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Efficacy and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection for rectal tumors with or without dentate line involvement: a propensity score matching analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
ObjectiveTo evaluate the technical feasibility, safety, and therapeutic outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for rectal tumors extending to the dentate line (RTDLs) compared with non-RTDLs using propensity score matching (PSM).MethodsWe ...

MRI Findings of Rectal Submucosal Tumors [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Radiology, 2011
Rectal submucosal lesions encompass a wide variety of benign and malignant tumors involving the rectum. With optical colonoscopy, any mass-like protrusion covered by normal mucosa, whether the underlying process is intramural or extramural in origin, may be reported as a submucosal lesion.

Are Colon and Rectal Cancer Two Different Tumor Entities? A Proposal to Abandon the Term Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2018
Colon cancer (CC) and rectal cancer (RC) are synonymously called colorectal cancer (CRC). Based on our experience in basic and clinical research as well as routine work in the field, the term CRC should be abandoned.

Inflammatory fibroblasts mediate resistance to neoadjuvant therapy in rectal cancer.

open access: yesCancer Cell, 2022
Standard cancer therapy targets tumor cells without considering possible damage on the tumor microenvironment that could impair therapy response. In rectal cancer patients we find that inflammatory cancer-associated fibroblasts (iCAFs) are associated ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

Rectal neuroendocrine tumors: Update

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology
Rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are increasingly detected and are the most common gastrointestinal NET sites. Often discovered incidentally during endoscopy, most are small, well differentiated, and have an excellent prognosis. Local resection is typically considered curative.
