Find closed form solutions to recurrences using theorem discovery

open access: yes, 2019
Recent years, program verification has become a more and more key problem in computer science. Solving recurrences, as a vital part of program verification system, has also attracted much more interests from outside.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

A Combinatorial Solution to Intertwined Recurrences

open access: yes, 2007
We provide combinatorial derivations of solutions to intertwined second order linear recurrences (such as an = pbn-1 + qan-2, bn = ran-1 + sbn-2) by counting tilings of length n strips with squares and dominoes of various colors and shades.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Probabilistic consequences of some polynomial recurrences

open access: yes, 2018
© 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, we consider sequences of polynomials that satisfy certain recurrences. Our interest is motivated by the fact that polynomials satisfying such recurrences frequently appear as generating polynomials of integer

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
