Challenging Classical Paradigms: Recurrent Nova M31N 2017-01e, a BeWD System in M31?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
M31N 2017-01e is the second-fastest recurrent nova known, with a recurrence period of 2.5 yr in the Andromeda galaxy (M31). This system exhibits a unique combination of properties: a low outburst amplitude (∼3 mag), starkly contrasting with known ...

Early Super Soft Source Spectra in RS Oph

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
Recent Swift X-ray monitoring campaigns of novae have revealed extreme levels of variability during the early super-softsource (SSS) phase. The first time this was observed was during the 2006 outburst of the recurrent nova RS Oph which was also ...

Fabrication of High‐Density Multimodal Neural Probes Based on Heterogeneously Integrated CMOS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A chiplet‐based methodology democratizes active neural probe development on standard bulk CMOS services. This yields the first probe combining high‐density electrophysiology (416 electrodes) with calcium imaging (832 photodiodes) and complete on‐chip signal processing across 13 shanks.

Hydrodynamic Studies of the Evolution of Recurrent, Symbiotic and Dwarf Novae: the White Dwarf Components are Growing in Mass

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2012
Symbiotic binaries are systems containing white dwarfs (WDs) and red giants. Symbiotic novae are those systems in which thermonuclear eruptions occur on the WD components.

Artificial Piezoelectric Interface Enables Ultrafast Interfacial Ion Kinetic for Highly‐Sensitive Piezoionic Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study proposes a piezoelectric interface modification strategy to amplify the piezoionic effect. The piezoelectric interface generates an intrinsic electric field, which not only drives rapid ion migration but also concentrates polarized ions on the interface. The flexible sensor delivers superior performance, such as a quick response rate, strong

Survival of the Accretion Disk in LMC Recurrent Nova 1968-12a: UV–X-Ray Case Study of the 2024 Eruption

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report on UV and X-ray observations of the 2024 eruption of the recurrent nova LMCN 1968-12a, a rapidly recurring extragalactic system with a ∼4.3 yr recurrence period and a massive white dwarf. The eruption was discovered on 2024 August 1.8 by Swift,

Orbital periods of recurrent novae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1990
The class of recurrent novae (RN) with thermonuclear runaways contains only three systems (T Pyx, U Sco, and V394 CrA), for which no orbital periods are known. This paper presents a series of photometric observations where the orbital periods for all three systems are discovered.
