Plant‐Derived Melatonin Inhibits Bacterial Virulence via CpxA/R Two‐Component System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plant‐derived melatonin is sensed by CpxAE48/T51, which inhibits the phosphorylation cascade transmission from CpxAH240 to CpxRD52, resulting in the inhibition of DNA‐binding capacity of CpxR and subsequent T3SS genes expression in Pst DC3000. ABSTRACT In defending against pathogens, plants deploy diverse secondary metabolites and signaling molecules ...

High-resolution Simulations of the Interaction between the Nova/Supernova Ejecta and the Accretion Disk

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Many nova and Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) explosion scenarios involve accretion disks. However, direct numerical simulations of these explosive phenomena have barely addressed the question of the impact of ejecta−disk collision on the midterm evolution of ...

CONSTRAINED LINERS AND DUAL MOBILITY SYSTEMS FOR PREVENTION OF INSTABILITY IN REVISION HIP ARTHROPLASTY

open access: yesTravmatologiâ i Ortopediâ Rossii, 2018
Purpose. Instability is a challenging complication of revision hip arthroplasty and a frequent cause of repeat revisions. Constrained liners and dual mobility systems have gained major attention among the options of dislocation prophylaxis.

The General Trends of Recurrent Novae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The observational properties of recurrent novae are reviewed in this talk. The class of recurrent novae may be divided into subgroups as (a) systems with a dwarf secondary and (b) systems with a giant secondary. The primary in these systems is a white dwarf, accreting at rates ~ 10-8 M ⊙ yr-1.

Distinct Biotypes of Visual Perception in Major Depressive Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a discover dataset (272 acute MDD patients), this work identifies a novel depression biotype characterized by impaired visual motion perception, using machine learning clustering. An independent dataset confirms the robustness of this biotype through cross‐validation and demonstrates its generalizability.

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

Transient Gamma Rays from the 2021 Outburst of the Recurrent Nova RS Ophiuchi: The Effect of Gamma-Ray Absorption

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
In 2021, RS Ophiuchi was the first nova to be detected in the very-high-energy (TeV) gamma-ray domain, directly testifying to efficient acceleration of charged particles up to at least the TeV range at the nova shock.

Recurrent novae and Type Ia supernova progenitors

open access: yes, 2022
We investigated two types of stellar explosions, recurrent novae (RNe) and Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). SNe Ia are the most useful distance markers in astrophysics, but we do not know the identity of their progenitor systems. RNe are good progenitor candidates that consist of a white dwarf (WD) that accretes material from a companion star. The material

Advanced Dental Composite Technology via Bisilanized Dual‐Action Nanofillers for Biofilm Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal research strategy has led to the development of an innovative resin‐based composite (RBC) with dual antibacterial action. The S_CM‐RBC formula showed strong antibiofilm activity, excellent mechanical strength, and biosafety. It effectively controlled oral bacteria in prevention of caries recurrence, and maintained pulp health in a rat ...

Temporary Equilibrium Mass Transfer Rate in Cataclysmic Variables?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The separation of a binary system increases or decreases over time, governed by angular momentum (AM) changes. In cataclysmic variables (CVs), Roche-lobe overflow from the red dwarf (RD) to the white dwarf (WD) redistributes AM within the system through ...
