Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S)
British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2017Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) is the result of insufficient caloric intake and/or excessive energy expenditure. Consequences of this low-energy condition can alter many physiological systems, including metabolism, menstrual function, bone health, immunity, protein synthesis, and cardiovascular and psychological health1 (figure 1 ...

The In Vivo Inhibition of Bone Formation by Alizarin Red S
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1964Significant inhibition of bone formation in dogs was observed in areas of intense skeletal uptake of alizarin red S. Electron microscopy revealed that the organic matrix in these areas was severely disturbed. The areas which contained no recognizable collagen had the least mineral.

Microdetermination of alizarine red S
Microchemical Journal, 1968Abstract Alizarin red S is determined by oxidation with ceric sulfate. Oxidation results in the formation of phthalic acid and formic acid at 14 equivalence. Maximum error observed was + 2.7%.

Alizarin Red S As An Intravital Fluorochrome in Mineralizing Tissues
Stain Technology, 1965To avoid interference with weight gain following alizarin red S injections, low doses of an order of 25 mg/kg body weight must be used. Two such doses given 4 days apart to 24-day-old rats produced no visible staining of bone or dentine in undecalcified sections examined by ordinary light microscopy.
