Deformability of red blood cells in eczema.

Journal of medicine, 1987
Normal erythrocytes (RBCs) are flexible and deformable while erythrocytes obtained from patients with eczema showed a decrease in flexibility when compared with erythrocytes obtained from normal healthy individuals. This decrease in RBC deformability among eczematous patients was found to be statistically significant (p less than 0.001).

Blood viscosity and red cell deformability

1980
Blood flow is determined by the pressure gradient, the calibre of the vessels and the viscosity of the blood. For too long a disproportionate emphasis has been placed by clinicians interested in circulatory diseases on the pathology of the vessels. The physical flow properties of the blood have only recently been investigated systematically and this ...

The Measurement of Red Blood Cell Deformability

1981
At rest the normal red blood cell is a biconcave disc, but in flowing blood the cell may assume a variety of shapes, suggesting that it is highly deformable. The ability to undergo large deformations when subjected to stresses allows the red blood cells to pass through capillaries narrower than the resting erythrocyte diameter, and ensures that the ...

Red blood cell-deformability measurement: Review of techniques

Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation, 2009
Cell-deformability characterization involves general measurement of highly complex relationships between cell biology and physical forces to which the cell is subjected. The review takes account of the modern technical solutions simulating the action of the force applied to the red blood cell in macro- and microcirculation.
