Foliar Chlorosis in Field-Grown Red Maples [PDF]
Franksred red maple ( Acer rubrum `Franksred') trees were sampled from nursery fields in 2003 and 2004 to determine the cause of a common foliar chlorosis. Plots in 21 and 39 different nurseries were identified in 2003 and 2004, respectively.

Scale insect abundance peaked in the upper canopy of sugar maples. Parthenolecanium peaked on older internodes; Lepidosaphes on the current leader. Internodes longer than the previous carried more scales; wider ones fewer. Abstract Forest canopies are vertically stratified habitats in which microclimate and host tissue quality vary with height.

Host tree identity and latitude shaped wood‐boring beetle assemblages, with species richness declining northward but community composition varying among regions and hosts. Host tree species influenced beetle communities more strongly than climate; black spruce supported the most species, while eastern hemlock hosted very few.

ABSTRACT Heat stress imposes significant challenges to welfare, health, and productivity of lactating sows due to their limited thermoregulatory capacity and increased metabolic heat load. Genetic selection for improved heat tolerance is a promising yet complex approach, given the large number of biological processes involved in heat stress response ...
