Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Evaluation of Errors in Reduced Order Modeling

open access: yesTransactions of the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, 1999
The purpose of the paper is to make a comparison between the equation errors and the output errors which are used as criteria for measuring modeling errors in system identification. In many practical situations real systems have high system orders which are often unknown, and reduced order models are used for estimating the parameters of the systems ...

Reduced-Order Model Approaches for Predicting Airfoil Performance

open access: yesActuators
This study delves into the construction of reduced-order models (ROMs) of a flow field over a NACA 0012 airfoil at a moderate Reynolds number and an angle of attack of 8∘. Numerical simulations were computed through the finite-volume solver OpenFOAM. The

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Reduced-order modeling of soft robots

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2018
We present a general strategy for the modeling and simulation-based control of soft robots. Although the presented methodology is completely general, we restrict ourselves to the analysis of a model robot made of hyperelastic materials and actuated by cables or tendons. To comply with the stringent real-time constraints imposed by control algorithms, a

A reduced order model for fission gas diffusion in columnar grains

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
In fast reactors, restructuring of the fuel micro-structure driven by high temperature and high temperature gradient can cause the formation of columnar grains.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Reduced order and surrogate models for gravitational waves

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Relativity, 2022
AbstractWe present an introduction to some of the state of the art in reduced order and surrogate modeling in gravitational-wave (GW) science. Approaches that we cover include principal component analysis, proper orthogonal (singular value) decompositions, the reduced basis approach, the empirical interpolation method, reduced order quadratures, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Reduced-Order Modeling of the Fluidic Pinball [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The fluidic pinball is a geometrically simple flow configuration with three rotating cylinders on the vertex of an equilateral triangle. Yet, it remains physically rich enough to host a range of interacting frequencies and to allow testing of control laws within minutes on a laptop.
