Reduced-Rank Hidden Markov Models

open access: yes, 2018
Hsu et al. (2009) recently proposed an ef- ficient, accurate spectral learning algorithm for Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). In this paper we relax their assumptions and prove a tighter finite-sample error bound for the case of Reduced-Rank HMMs, i.e., HMMs

An outer membrane vesicle‐associated two‐track model for enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis oncogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis is a gut bacterium linked to bowel cancer. We propose that its toxin acts along two routes: at the cell surface, cutting the adhesion protein E‐cadherin and triggering inflammation; and inside the cell, delivered by bacterial vesicles, switching on NOD1 and cancer stem cell programs.

Multi-fidelity reduced-order surrogate modelling

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences
High-fidelity numerical simulations of partial differential equations (PDEs) given a restricted computational budget can significantly limit the number of parameter configurations considered and/or time window evaluated.

Parametric Generation of Datasets for the Creation of Reduced Order Models of Rubber-Metal Elements

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering
The work deals with the parametric generation of datasets, which are used for creation of reduced order models (ROM) of rubber-metal elements (RME). First chapter describes the standard development process and advantages of implementing ROM into this ...

Reduced-order subscales for POD models

open access: yes
In this work the Reduced-Order Subscales for Proper Orthogonal Decomposition models are presented. The basic idea consists in splitting the full-order solution into the part which can be captured by the reduced-order model and the part which cannot, the ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Error estimation for reduced-order models of dynamical systems

open access: yes, 2005
. The use of reduced-order models to describe a dynamical system is pervasive in science and engineering. Often these models are used without an estimate of their error or range of validity.
