Imine reductases (IREDs)

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2017
Imine reductases (IREDs) have emerged as a valuable new set of biocatalysts for the asymmetric synthesis of optically active amines. The development of bioinformatics tools and searchable databases has led to the identification of a diverse range of new IRED biocatalysts that have been characterised and employed in different synthetic processes.

Targeting carbonic anhydrase IX/XII prevents the anti‐ferroptotic effect of stromal lactic acid in prostate carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In prostate carcinoma, lactic acid, secreted by highly glycolytic cancer‐associated fibroblasts, is imported into tumor cells through the MCT1 transporter and prevents RSL3 and erastin‐induced ferroptosis (A). Targeting of carbonic anhydrase IX/XII, the main extracellular pH regulators, in tumor and stromal cells reduces microenvironmental acidosis and

Catalysis in fumarate reductase

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2000
In the absence of oxygen many bacteria are able to utilise fumarate as a terminal oxidant for respiration. In most known organisms the fumarate reductases are membrane-bound iron-sulfur flavoproteins but Shewanella species produce a soluble, periplasmic flavocytochrome c(3) that catalyses this reaction.

Identifying prognostic targets in metastatic prostate cancer beyond AR

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide functional screens combined with a large gene expression database and clinical outcomes can identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities in prostate cancer. Eight potentially druggable targets demonstrated strong dependency in cell lines, were associated with worse prognosis clinically, and showed evidence of protein expression in prostate ...

The flavoheme reductase Ncb5or protects cells against endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced lipotoxicity[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2010
NCB5OR is a novel flavoheme reductase with a cytochrome b5-like domain at the N-terminus and a cytochrome b5 reductase-like domain at the C terminus. Ncb5or knock-out mice develop insulin deficient diabetes and loss of white adipose tissue.

BCS1L‐Associated Disease: 5′‐UTR Variant Shifts the Phenotype Towards Axonal Neuropathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To investigate the consequences of a pathogenic missense variant (c.838C>T; p.L280F) and a 5′‐UTR regulatory variant (c.‐122G>T) in BCS1L on disease pathogenesis and to understand how regulatory variants influence disease severity and clinical presentation.

Electrochemical Biosensing of Glucose Based on the Enzymatic Reduction of Glucose

open access: yesSensors, 2022
In this work, the enzyme aldehyde reductase, also known as aldose reductase, was synthesized and cloned from a human gene. Spectrophotometric measurements show that in presence of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate cofactor (NADPH), the ...
