Differences in mammal community response to highway construction across different levels of human land use

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Worldwide, transportation agencies have been involved in road mitigation efforts to reduce road mortality and promote connectivity of endangered species. Baseline data on how mammals respond to highway construction, however, are rarely collected in road mitigation and monitoring studies, including in the USA.

Using a live‐streaming webcam to assess the behavioural responses of waterbirds to changes in the density of swans Cygnus spp.

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Wildlife research has benefitted from the development of new methods that allow data to be collected remotely, with less disturbance to focal animals. The proliferation of livestreaming webcams, for example, those used by nature reserves for public engagement purposes, have offered new possibilities for the study of wildlife behaviour.

An effective uniform Artin-Rees lemma

open access: yes
We prove a global uniform Artin-Rees lemma type theorem for sections of ample line bundles over smooth projective varieties. This result is used to prove an Artin-Rees lemma for the polynomial ring with uniform degree bounds.

Urban bats show dietary flexibility in aquatic arthropod consumption at urban and rural waterbodies

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Urban waterbodies are critical for biodiversity and provide feeding grounds for insectivorous bats. Yet, how urbanisation affects bats' food choices at urban waterbodies and the role of emergent aquatic arthropods remain poorly understood. We compared the diet of three urban bat species – Vespadelus vulturnus, Chalinolobus gouldii, and Myotis macropus –

A family of quotients of the Rees algebra

open access: yes, 2020
A family of quotient rings of the Rees algebra associated to a commutative ring is studied. This family generalizes both the classical concept of idealization by Nagata and a more recent concept, the amalgamated duplication of a ring.

DEFINING EQUATIONS OF THE REES ALGEBRA OF CERTAIN PARAMETRIC SURFACES

open access: yes, 2010
Let f0, f1, f2, f3 be linearly independent nonzero homogeneous polynomials in the standard ℤ-graded ring R ≔ 𝕂[s, t, u] of the same degree d, and gcd (f0, f1, f2, f3) = 1. This defines a rational map ℙ2 → ℙ3.

Parturition timing and the pre‐ and post‐partum behaviour of female moose assessed using animal‐borne video and movement‐based approaches

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Limited information on moose calving behaviour, including parturition timing, cow‐calf interactions, and pre‐ and post‐partum movement patterns hinder our ability to define calving phenology and habitat use. GPS‐collars were deployed on 89 female moose over five years, including eight collars equipped with animal‐borne video and environmental data ...

Bounding the Degrees of the Defining Equations of Rees Rings for Certain Determinantal and Pfaffian Ideals

open access: yes, 2020
We consider ideals of minors of a matrix, ideals of minors of a symmetric matrix, and ideals of Pfaffians of an alternating matrix. Assuming these ideals are of generic height, we characterize the condition Gsfor these ideals in terms of the heights of ...

A note on sequences and y-regularity of Rees algebra

open access: yes, 2023
Given a graded ring $A$ and a homogeneous ideal $I$, the ideal is said to be of linear type if the Rees algebra of $I$ is isomorphic to the symmetric algebra of $I$.
