On the structure of the canonical module of the Rees algebra and the associated graded ring of an ideal [PDF]

open access: yesPublicacions Matemàtiques, 1992
In this note we give the description of a morphism related with the structure of the canonocal module of the Rees algebra R(I) of an ideal I in a local ring . As an application we obtain Ikeda's criteria for the Gorensteinness of R(I) and a result of IierzogSimis-Vasconcelos characterizing when the canonical module of R(I) has the expected form.

Quasi-gorensteinness of extended rees algebras

open access: yes, 2014
Let R be a Noetherian ring and I an R-ideal in Rad(R). It is well known that if the associated graded ring grI ( R) is Cohen-Macaulay or Gorenstein, then so is R. However, the converse does not hold true in general.

F-rationality of certain Rees algebras and counterexamples to “Boutot's Theorem” for F-rational rings

open access: yes, 1997
F-rational rings are defined for rings of characteristic p > 0 using the Frobenius endomorphism and corresponds to rational singularities in characteristic 0.

Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

Waves of range dynamics and gene flow characterize the biogeographic history of Litsea elongata, a dominant tree in East Asian evergreen broadleaved forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Evergreen broadleaved forests (EBLFs) represent an iconic vegetation type in subtropical montane East Asia, but they are experiencing intensifying anthropogenic pressure and increasing habitat fragmentation. Here, using a dominant and widespread tree species characteristic of East Asian EBLFs, we examine its phylogeographic history and evaluate what it

Forensic Hydraulic Analysis of Floodplain Connectivity Driven by Historical Beaver Dams in Colorado Headwater Streams

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As ecosystem engineers, beavers (Castor canadensis) modify river corridor form through dam building. When beavers are removed from a river corridor, their unmaintained dams wash out, altering the stream's hydrologic regime. The assumption that beaver dams increase floodplain connectivity is frequently presumed but has not been directly ...

Rees property and its related properties of modules

open access: yes, 2015
Properties of ideals of a commutative Noetherian local ring or a Noetherian standerd graded commutative algebra over a field, called the Rees property, the second Rees property, the m-fullness and the fullness, can naturally be extended to the properties

Programmed unmanned aerial vehicles show great potential for monitoring marine megafauna in specific areas of interest

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Targeted conservation measures are contingent on robust knowledge of spatio‐temporal animal distribution in areas of interest. We explore unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) transect monitoring as a novel method for standardized digital aerial surveys of marine megafauna by investigating the fine‐resolution spatio‐temporal distribution of harbour porpoises ...

Hyperspectral species maps and LiDAR‐based structured population models show future forest fire frequency may compromise forest resilience

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Monitoring forest recovery from disturbances at scale requires tracking tree dynamics, yet traditional ground‐based approaches are resource‐intensive. We present a pipeline to parameterize integral projection models (IPMs) using LiDAR data and hyperspectral‐based species maps to assess post‐fire recovery across large, forested areas at the Caribou ...

Historical remote sensing highlights long‐term persistence of Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) colonies

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Remote sensing can reveal population dynamics of Antarctic penguin colonies. In this study, we analyze emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) guano stains in remote sensing imagery and discover colony presence predating known records for 18 colonies across Antarctica.
