Preparation and Certification of River Sediment Reference Material for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2013
Matrix-type certified reference materials (CRMs) prepared from real environmental samples are used to ensure the reliability of environmental analyses and the comparability of results from different laboratories.

Differential Selection for Survival and for Growth in Adaptive Laboratory Evolution Experiments With Benzalkonium Chloride

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications
Biocides are used to control microorganisms across different applications, but emerging resistance may pose risks for those applications. Resistance to biocides has commonly been studied using adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) experiments with growth ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Changes in Black Truffle (Tuber melanosporum) Aroma during Storage under Different Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
The enticing aroma of truffles is a key factor for their culinary value. Although all truffle species tend to be pricy, the most intensely aromatic species are the most sought after.

Fe-based superconductors: unity or diversity?

open access: yes, 2008
Does the high temperature superconductivity observed in the newly discovered iron-pnictide materials represent another example of the same essential physics responsible for superconductivity in the cuprates, or does it embody a new mechanism?Comment ...

Persistence and Memory in Patchwork Dynamics for Glassy Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Slow dynamics in disordered materials prohibits direct simulation of their rich nonequilibrium behavior at large scales. "Patchwork dynamics" is introduced to mimic relaxation over a very broad range of time scales by equilibrating or optimizing directly

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

The Preparation of Carbon and Nitrogen Stable Isotopes Reference Materials Using Sediments from the Bohai and East China Seas

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2017
The stable isotope of carbon and nitrogen (δ13C and δ15N) in marine sediments have received much attention as they can be used to trace the sources of organic matter and are helpful in understanding the carbon cycle, climate change and the transformation

Interpretation of AIS Images of Cuprite, Nevada Using Constraints of Spectral Mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes
A technique is outlined that tests the hypothesis Airborne Imaging Spectrometer (AIS) image spectra are produced by mixtures of surface materials. This technique allows separation of AIS images into concentration images of spectral endmembers (e.g ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
