Refined Theory for Thick Composite Plates

Elasticity Theory of Plates and a Refined Theory
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1979A method for the solution of three-dimensional elasticity equations is presented and is applied to the problem of thick plates. Through this method three governing differential equations, the well-known biharmonic equation, a shear equation and a third governing equation, are deduced directly and systematically from Navier’s equations. On Certain Refined Theories for Plate Bending
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1988This note presents the derivation of an eighth-order theory for plate bending which decomposes the plate flexure as occurring in two stages. During the basic stage of flexure the plate bends in accordance with the Kirchhoff hypothesis, while during an additional flexural stage the effects of transverse shear deformation are incorporated into the theory.
