A Refined Shear Deformation Plate Theory

International Journal for Computational Methods in Engineering Science and Mechanics, 2011
An improved higher-order shear deformation theory of plates is presented in this paper. The theory is developed from the transverse shear deformation theory presented by Ambartsumian [11]. The present plate theory contains kinematics of higher-order displacement field of plates, a system of higher-order differential equilibrium equations in terms of ...

CYLENDRCAL BENDING OF COMPOSITE PLATES USING REFINED PLATE THEORY

International Journal of Advanced Technology in Civil Engineering, 2013
In this paper, Cylindrical bending of composite plates using refined plate theory is presented. The theory accounts for the parabolic variation of shear strains through the thickness of plate. Hence does not require shear correction factor. The displacement field of the theory contains two variables same as that of first order shear deformation theory.

On the formulation of refined theories of plates and shells

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1962
Abstract The attempt to refine theories of plates and shells was started in [1, 2], and at the present time many papers are devoted to this problem. These papers usually use one of a number of assumptions. A survey of them is beyond the scope of this note. We mention only the papers in which a certain error is specified at the outset, for example, of

A Refined Theory of Elastic, Orthotropic Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958
Abstract A refined theory of elastic, orthotropic plates is presented. The theory includes the effect of transverse shear deformation and normal stress and may be considered a generalization of the classical theory of von Karman modified by the refinements of the Levy-Reissner-Mindlin theories.

Refined hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2014
The paper presents a novel shear deformation plate theory involving only two variables. Taking a cue from exact three-dimensional theory of elasticity solutions for a plate, hyperbolic functions are used for describing displacement variation across plate thickness.

Numerical methods and refined plate theories

Computers & Structures, 1982
Abstract A number of refined plate theories are available which, although similar in their basic assumptions, offer a wide choice of variables in which problems may be formulated. The implications for solution of plate problems by numerical methods are discussed and the significance of the formulation chosen is examined.

A refined theory for thick composite plates

Mechanics Research Communications, 1988
The present theory uses a displacement approach, as in the Reddy theory [\textit{J. N. Reddy}, J. Appl. Mech. 51, 745-752 (1984; Zbl 0549.73062)]. However, the displacement field form is dictated by the satisfaction of one condition: that is, the transverse shear stresses have to vanish on the plate surfaces and be nonzero elsewhere as in the Reddy ...

ON VIBRATION OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED PLATES ACCORDING TO A REFINED TRIGONOMETRIC PLATE THEORY

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2005
The displacement components are expressed by trigonometric series representation through the plate thickness to develop a two-dimensional theory. This trigonometric shear deformation plate theory is used to perform free-vibration analysis of a simply supported functionally graded thick plate.
