Reflections on threshold concepts in computer programming and beyond
I comment on and extend prior work that searches for threshold concepts in computer programming. I argue that explicitly linking threshold concepts to Brunerian fundamental ideas gives structure to the ongoing debate on threshold concepts. Program dynamics, information hiding and object interaction appear three strong candidates for threshold concepts ...

A computer program for determining multiplicities of powder reflections: a correction
An amendment to a computer program for determining multiplicities of powder reflections [Rouse & Cooper (1977). J. Appl. Cryst. 10, 134–135] has been made to correct an error in the multiplicity values given for some reflections for space groups with {\bar 3}1m Laue symmetry, which exists in some of the standard texts.

A computer program for the generation of ordered unique reflection sets
A computer program has been written which generates a set of unique reflections within specified limits for a particular space group and given unit-cell dimensions for use with conventional or time-of-flight diffraction data. The set is output as a list of h, k, l, d spacing, scattering angle or time-of-flight, and multiplicity for all unique, non ...

A method of determining possible reflection conditions (systematic absences) from a list of indexed powder diffraction peaks and assigning a significance rank to them is suggested. The reflection conditions for the crystal system may be used to suggest possible space groups. A program, POWABS, based on this method is described.
