Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Analysis of the compactibility of bituminous mixtures for reflective crack relief interlayers (RCRI) [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering
The physical properties determining the strength parameters of bituminous mixtures are strongly influenced by the processes of placement and compaction.

Silicon-slurry/aluminide coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A low cost coating protects metallic base system substrates from high temperatures, high gas velocity ovidation, thermal fatigue and hot corrosion and is particularly useful fo protecting vanes and blades in aircraft and land based gas turbine engines. A

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Presenting a Statistical Model of Fatigue Prediction for the Effect of Loading Frequency on Reflective Cracks Propagation on Asphalt Layers Improved by Geosynthetics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering
So far, several methods have been proposed for delaying the reflective cracks in pavements. Despite substantial money spent annually on these types of maintenance methods to control reflection cracking in road pavement, none of them has successfully ...

Analysis of the extension behavior of reflective cracks in asphalt pavements based on dry shrinkage property

open access: yesSN Applied Sciences, 2022
In order to study the extension behavior of dry shrinkage type reflective cracks in asphalt pavements, this paper uses the differential equation theory to derive the calculation formula for the inhomogeneous gradient distribution of dry shrinkage stress ...

Specular Reflection by Contacting Crack Faces

open access: yes, 1984
Non-linear relations are postulated between the transmitted tractions and the crack opening displacements across contacting rough crack faces. For the opening mode these relations take into account that a crack easily opens, but that the resistance to crack closure increases rapidly as the rough crack faces come in contact.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

High-Order Wave-Damage Interaction Coefficients (WDIC) Extracted through Modal Decomposition

open access: yesSensors, 2021
This paper presents a new technique for the extraction of high-order wave-damage interaction coefficients (WDIC) through modal decomposition. The frequency and direction dependent complex-valued WDIC are used to model the scattering and mode conversion ...

Performance of Tencate Mirafi PGM-G4 Interlayer-Reinforced Asphalt Pavements in Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Geosynthetics has been used in hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlays in a variety of design and construction situations for more than three decades. A number of positive benefits have been identified such as waterproofing control for base and subgrade ...
