Comparison of Dust Detection by Using Reflected Solar Bands and Thermal Bands

Advances in Imaging, 2009
Dust detection from solar and thermal bands is compared to investigate the performance of each algorithm. Three different algorithms show reasonable consistency to detect dust layer. The consistency increases with aerosol optical depth (AOD).

Assessment of MODIS reflective solar bands calibration stability

Sensors, Systems, and Next-Generation Satellites XXI, 2017
Terra and Aqua MODIS instruments have continued to operate normally since their launch in December 1999 and May 2002. MODIS reflective solar bands (RSB) with wavelengths ranging from 0.41 to 2.3 μm are calibrated on-orbit by an on-board solar diffuser (SD) and a solar diffuser stability monitor (SDSM).

The recalibration of FY-3 MERSI reflective solar bands

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Medium Resolution Spectral Imager (MERSI) is a keystone instrument onboard Fengyun-3 (FY-3), the second generation of polar-orbiting meteorological satellites in China. There are three units currently in operation, in which FY- 3A and FY-3C were launched on May 27, 2008 and September 23, 2013, separately, in a sun-synchronous morning orbit with a local

VIIRS reflective solar bands on-orbit calibration using solar diffuser and solar diffuser stability monitor

2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015
The reflective solar bands (RSB) of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on board the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) satellite are primarily calibrated on-orbit by a solar diffuser (SD) panel whose performance is monitored by an accompanying solar diffuser stability monitor (SDSM).

Initial assessment of radiometric performance of N20 VIIRS reflective solar bands using vicarious approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The newly launched (November 18, 2017) polar-orbiting satellite of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-1), now transitioned to NOAA-20, is the follow-on mission to the SNPP (Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership) satellite, launched six years ago.

A robust method for determining calibration coefficients for VIIRS reflective solar bands

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
This paper presents a robust method for determining the calibration coefficients in polynomial calibration equations, and discusses the corresponding calibration uncertainties. An attenuator method that takes into account all measurements with and without an attenuator screen was used to restrict the impact of the absolute calibration of the light ...

Functional form of the radiometric equation for the SNPP VIIRS reflective solar bands

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) satellite is a passive scanning radiometer and an imager, observing radiative energy from the Earth in 22 spectral bands from 0.41 to 12 m which include 14 reflective solar bands (RSBs).

Prelaunch characterization and performance of JPSS-2 VIIRS reflective solar bands

Earth Observing Systems XXIII, 2018
The Joint Polar Satellite System 2 (JPSS-2) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument is the third in a series (S-NPP VIIRS launched in October 2011 and JPSS-1 VIIRS in November 2017) of highly advanced polar-orbiting environmental satellites.

Degradation of MODIS optics and its reflective solar bands calibration

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
The MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) has 36 spectral bands with wavelength ranging from 0.41 micron to 14.5 micron and spatial resolution between 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 km at Nadir. Its ProtoFlight Model (PFM) on the NASA EOS Terra spacecraft has been providing global coverage of the Land, Ocean, and Atmosphere for the science ...
