Multimode interference tapered fiber refractive index sensors

Applied Optics, 2012
Real-time monitoring of the fabrication process of tapering down a multimode-interference-based fiber structure is presented. The device is composed of a pure silica multimode fiber (MMF) with an initial 125 μm diameter spliced between two single-mode fibers. The process allows a thin MMF with adjustable parameters to obtain a high signal transmittance,

Ultrasensitive photonic crystal fiber refractive index sensor

Optics Letters, 2009
We introduce a microfluidic refractive index sensor based on a directional coupler architecture using solid-core photonic crystal fibers. The sensor achieves very high sensitivity by coupling the core mode to a mode in the adjacent fluid-filled waveguide that is beyond modal cutoff, and with strong field overlap.

Highly sensitive refractive index sensors

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
A chemical and biological sensor based on a free-space waveguide resonant grating optical filter has been developed. Different from the conventional surface plasmon resonance sensors and the conventional waveguide mode sensors, which require either prism coupling or grating coupling, the proposed free-space optical sensor device does not require ...

Phase interrogation birefringent-refraction sensor for refractive index variation measurements

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2017
Abstract A birefringent-refraction (BR) sensor for measuring refractive indices of liquid solutions based on phase interrogation in a heterodyne interferometer is proposed. We theoretically investigate a comprehensive performance comparison between a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor and the proposed BR sensor in terms of sensitivity and the ...

Refractive index sensor based on magnetoplasmonic crystals

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2016
Abstract A magneto-optical surface plasmon resonance (MOSPR) sensor based on a magnetoplasmonic crystal trilayer structure is presented. The sensitivity of the MOSPR sensor is studied as a function of ferromagnetic layer thickness and at the different modes of operation.

A Novel Nanometeric Plasmonic Refractive Index Sensor

IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology, 2010
A novel surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) refractive index sensor based on the coupling of a split waveguide mode with a cavity mode in the metal is proposed and studied in this paper. Both analytic and simulated results show that the resonant wavelength of the sensor has a linear relationship with the refractive index of materials under sensing.

Fiber optic liquid refractive index sensor

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
In this present work we report fabrication of fiber optic liquid refractive index (RI) measurement sensor based on Michelson Interferometer method. This sensor was assembled by using graded index multimode (MM) fiber with core diameter 50 µm and the cladding of fiber was removed by simple chemical method. To perform this experiment a 2×2 3dB coupler is

Multipoint Fibre Optic Refractive Index Sensors

SPIE Proceedings, 1986
We propose a multisensor network where the refractive index modulators are distributed in cascade along the optical fibre. Reflections at fibre glass-monitoring medium interfaces provide a train of time multiplexed pulses. Backscattered radiation in the fibre serves as a reference channel for the individual sensors which can be designed for temperature,

A Novel Intensity-Based Sensor Platform for Refractive Index Sensing

2019
In the present investigation a new intensity-based sensor platform for refractive index sensing is presented. It is based on a special holder, a slab waveguide and two Plastic optical fibers (POFs). In particular, we present a comparison between two different configurations: the slab waveguide with and without a buffer layer.

A Novel LRSPP Based Refractive Index Sensor

2006 International Symposium on Biophotonics, Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, 2006
A novel three-layer sensor based on LRSPP is proposed for detecting the refractive index changes, especially in the biosensor field. We find that the loss and electromagnetic field size of LRSPP are sensitive to the refractive index of detection substance.
