In this paper, we present theoretical foundations of first-order design of an imaging refractometer. This refractometer may be used to measure the refractive index of liquids over a wide range. Refractive index reconstruction techniques are presented, and analytical reconstruction expressions are derived. The validity of the derived

Optical Waveguide Refractometers
2005In this chapter we have illustrated a new method for the determination of the refractive index of liquid samples, based on Cerenkov second harmonic generation from suitable planar waveguides. The method allows the determination of the refractive index in the near infrared by detection in the visible.

This paper describes how a conventional Pulfrich refractometer can be modified for use with laser light sources for the precise determination of the refractive index of liquids. Measurements carried out on water, several organic liquids, and KCI solutions are reported.
