Mechanical properties of chemically bonded phosphate refractory castables

open access: yesMatéria (Rio de Janeiro), 2022
ABSTRACT The knowledge of the phase transformations and the role of different parameters in the performance of phosphate-bonded systems are of utmost importance for the refractory field. The effect of the setting agent, phosphoric acid concentration and additives on the setting time, cold crush strength, hot modulus of rupture, abrasion resistance, and

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Mechanochemically synthesized high alumina cement and their implementation as low cement castables with some micro-fine additives

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2015
High-energy ball milling viz. mechanochemical process is being utilized to mechanically activate ceramic powders for low temperature solid state reactions. The process can help to select low-cost commercially available oxides and can produce powders with

Preparation and properties of low cement castable sintered at different temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The low cement high alumina castable (LCC) studied in this paper was synthesised, cured and then treated at different sintering temperatures. Since any inhomogeneity introduced during the castable preparation can remain inside the material degrading its ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Improvement in Slag Resistance of No-Cement Refractory Castables by Matrix Design

open access: yesCeramics, 2020
The corrosion resistance of spinel containing cement bonded castables has been extensively investigated in the past. However, corrosion of no-cement refractory castables (NCC) has not been widely studied since the use of NCC has been relatively limited ...

Effect of silica fume additions on the hydration behaviour of calcium aluminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
In the recent refractory castables technology, the calcium aluminate cement is being replaced in increasing proportion by very fine matrix components, such as silica fume and colloidal alumina.

Fiber reinforced refractory castables for SPF toolings [PDF]

open access: yesMaterialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2008
AbstractFiber reinforced refractory castable (FRRC) is an emerging material solution to manufacture SPF tools for forming titanium alloy sheets. Indeed, FRRC are able to conserve good mechanical properties up to 900 °C. Fiber reinforcement allows to improve mechanical properties and to avoid a catastrophic failure.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron
