CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

The competitiveness of tourism in Romania after EU accession: Regional analysis [PDF]

open access: yesEkonomika Poljoprivrede (1979), 2019
Tourism is dependent on the existence of natural and antrophic resources. Because Romania is characterized by great variety and diversity of these type of resources, we want to study the evolution and attractiveness of tourism and how it was influenced ...

Inter-Regional Wage Differentials in Portugal: An Analysis Across the Wage Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Typically, studies on regional wage differentials are based on ordinary least squares (OLS) estimates. Quantile regression is an alternative approach which allows these differences to be studied across the whole wage distribution.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Analytical validation of an automated assay to measure calprotectin (S100A8/A9) in dog saliva and serum and changes in canine leishmaniasis, pyometra and hyperadrenocorticism

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Calprotectin (S100A8/A9) is a protein related to innate immunity that is considered a biomarker of inflammation. Currently, there is a commercially available automated assay for the measurement of calprotectin concentration (Bühlmann fCal ...

Desertification: On Significance of The Term and Research of The Phenomenon

open access: yesMiscellanea Geographica: Regional Studies on Development, 2006
First elaborations on desertification come from the Renaissance, but the term was used for the first time by Aubréville in 1949. In later years, many significantly varying in meaning definitions were elaborated.

Effect of chemotherapy on passenger mutations in metastatic colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Changes in passenger mutation load and predicted immunotherapy response after chemotherapy treatment. Tumor cells rich with passenger mutations have increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. Correlation of passenger mutations with neoantigen load suggests highly mutated clones promote a more effective response to immunotherapy, and therefore, first‐line ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Regional Frequency Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Regionalisation is a useful approach in dealing with data poor catchments. A set of catchment attributes are used to select hydrologically similar catchments in order to overcome the data shortage problem.
