Automatic structure recovery for generalized additive models

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, Volume 51, Issue 4, Page 959-974, December 2023., 2023
Abstract In this article, we propose an automatic structure recovery method for generalized additive models (GAMs) by extending Wu and Stefanski's approach. In a similar vein, the proposed method is based on a local scoring algorithm coupled with local polynomial smoothing, along with a kernel‐based variable selection approach.

Multi‐species, multi‐country analysis reveals North Americans are willing to pay for transborder migratory species conservation

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 549-562, April 2022., 2022

Missing data: A statistical framework for practice

open access: yesBiometrical Journal, Volume 63, Issue 5, Page 915-947, June 2021., 2021
Abstract Missing data are ubiquitous in medical research, yet there is still uncertainty over when restricting to the complete records is likely to be acceptable, when more complex methods (e.g. maximum likelihood, multiple imputation and Bayesian methods) should be used, how they relate to each other and the role of sensitivity analysis.

Effect of adding azithromycin to the antimalarials used for seasonal malaria chemoprevention on the nutritional status of African children

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 25, Issue 6, Page 740-750, June 2020., 2020
Abstract Objectives Mass administration of azithromycin has reduced mortality in children in sub‐Saharan Africa but its mode of action is not well characterised. A recent trial found that azithromycin given alongside seasonal malaria chemoprevention was not associated with a reduction in mortality or hospital admissions in young children.
