The Wnt/β-catenin pathway and Nanog are key regulators of embryonic stem cell (ESC) pluripotency and the reprogramming of somatic cells. Here, we demonstrate that the repression of Dkk1 by Nanog, which leads indirectly to β-catenin activation, is ...

Topoisomerase 1 cleavage complex enables pattern recognition and inflammation during senescence
Here, the authors show that the topoisomerase 1-DNA covalent cleavage complex plays a critical role in mediating cytoplasmic chromatin fragments recognition by cyclic GMP-AMP synthase during senescence.

Infrared regulators and SCETII [PDF]
We consider matching from SCETI, which includes ultrasoft and collinear particles, onto SCETII with soft and collinear particles at one loop. Keeping the external fermions off their mass shell does not regulate all IR divergences in both theories. We give a new prescription to regulate infrared divergences in SCET.

The regulators and the regulated [PDF]
It is far too early to make any final assessment of what has been happening at the Environmental Protection Agency these past few weeks. The resignation of Administrator Anne Burford and the firing of other senior agency officials are only the outward manifestations of the bigger issue of this Administration's attitude toward the environment.

A subset of conserved mammalian long non-coding RNAs are fossils of ancestral protein-coding genes
Background Only a small portion of human long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) appear to be conserved outside of mammals, but the events underlying the birth of new lncRNAs in mammals remain largely unknown.

Regulatory Markets: The Future of AI Governance [PDF]
Appropriately regulating artificial intelligence is an increasingly urgent policy challenge. Legislatures and regulators lack the specialized knowledge required to best translate public demands into legal requirements. Overreliance on industry self-regulation fails to hold producers and users of AI systems accountable to democratic demands.

Regulating the Regulators: microRNA and Asthma [PDF]
One obstacle to developing an effective therapeutic strategy to treat or prevent asthma is that the fundamental causes of asthma are not totally understood. Asthma is thought to be a chronic TH2 immune-mediated inflammatory disease. Epigenetic changes are recognized to play a role in the initiation and maintenance of a TH2 response.

Phenotyping Diabetes Mellitus on Aggregated Electronic Health Records from Disparate Health Systems
Background: Identifying patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) is often performed in epidemiological studies using electronic health records (EHR), but currently available algorithms have features that limit their generalizability.
