Semantic query in a relational database using a local ontology construction (Retracted)

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Science, 2012
Semantic Web refers to a Web of linked data in which data can be shared and reused, allowing more uses than the traditional 'Web of documents'. However, most of the information on the Web is stored in relational databases and such databases cannot be ...

Heuristic program to design Relational Databases

open access: yesRevista MENDIVE, 2009
The great development of today’s world determines that the world level of information increases day after day, however, the time allowed to transmit this information in the classrooms has not changed.

Adequacy of Decompositions of Relational Databases

open access: yesJournal of Computer and System Sciences, 1980
AbstractWe consider conditions that have appeared in the literature with the purpose of defining a “good” decomposition of a relation scheme. We show that these notions are equivalent in the case that all constraints in the database are functional dependencies. This result solves an open problem of Rissanen.

Transforming Fuzzy Spatiotemporal Data From Relational Databases to XML

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
On account of the poor shareability of fuzzy spatiotemporal data in Web while XML could contribute to information performance and information interaction flexibly, we study the methodology of modeling the fuzzy spatiotemporal data based on relational ...

Relational database [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications of the ACM, 1982
It is well known that the growth in demands from end users for new applications is outstripping the capability of data processing departments to implement the corresponding application programs. There are two complementary approaches to attacking this problem (and both approaches are needed): one is to put end users into direct touch with the ...

Factorisation in relational databases

open access: yes, 2014
We study representation systems for relational data based on relational algebra expressions with unions, products, and singleton relations. Algebraic factorisation using the distributivity of product over union allows succinct representation of many-to-many relationships; further succinctness is brought by sharing repeated subexpressions.

Derivation of constraints and database relations

open access: yes, 1996
In this paper we investigate which constraints may be derived from a given set of constraints. We show that, given a set of relations R, all of which are invariant under some set of permutations P, it is possible to derive any other relation which is invariant under P, using only the projection, Cartesian product, and selection operators, together with
