Ontology-Aware Biomedical Relation Extraction
2022MotivationAutomatically extracting relationships from biomedical texts among multiple sorts of entities is an essential task in biomedical natural language processing with numerous applications, such as drug development or repurposing, precision medicine, and other biomedical tasks requiring knowledge discovery. Current Relation Extraction (RE) systems

Ontology refers to the nature of being and existence or the nature of reality. Relational ontologies refer to a particular understanding of ontology which gives primacy to the relations between entities as a constitutive element of their existence. Put another way, entities are what they are because of their relations with other entities.

A Constructivist Ontology Relation Learning Method
IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, 2022From the perspective of philosophy, ontology relations denote ultimate semantic relations of related knowledge concepts. Beyond doubt, it is still a very difficult problem on how to automatically depict and construct ontology relations because of its high abstractness.

Motor ontology in representing gaze–object relations
Neuroscience Letters, 2008Event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to explore how the human brain models gaze-object relations. During scanning participants observed a human model gazing towards or away a target object presented either in isolation or flanked by a distractor object.

Managing Ontology Evolution Via Relational Constraints
2004Ontology-based modelling is becoming increasingly important in the design of complex knowledge management applications. However, many problems related to large-scale ontology development, deployment and collaborative maintenance of related metadata still remain to be solved.

Relations, O-roles and applied ontology
Philosophical Inquiries, 2019Relational facts are best understood by appealing in a most general fashion to o-roles, i.e., ontological counterparts of the thematic roles appealed to in linguistics, such as agent, patient, instrument, theme, source, goal, and the like. Once relatedness is appropriately appreciated and o-roles enter the picture, the way relational facts are ...

Formalising Ontologies and Their Relations
1999Ontologies allow the abstract conceptualisation of domains, but a given domain can be conceptualised through many different ontologies, which can be problematic when ontologies are used to support knowledge sharing. We present a formal account of ontologies that is intended to support knowledge sharing through precise characterisations of relationships

This book provides an exhaustive overview of the ontology of relations. Moreover, it offers a detailed defense of the existence of irreducible relations in the universe and shows that entities such as powers should be better thought of as relations. At first, the author discusses many classical arguments for and against the existence of relations and ...
