Gibbs–Jaynes Entropy Versus Relative Entropy

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Physics, 2014
The maximum entropy formalism developed by Jaynes determines the relevant ensemble in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics by maximising the entropy functional subject to the constraints imposed by the available information. We present an alternative derivation of the relevant ensemble based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence from equilibrium.

Fundamental properties of Tsallis relative entropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Fundamental properties for the Tsallis relative entropy in both classical and quantum systems are studied. As one of our main results, we give the parametric extension of the trace inequality between the quantum relative entropy and the minus of the ...

Telescopic Relative Entropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce the telescopic relative entropy (TRE), which is a new regularisation of the relative entropy related to smoothing, to overcome the problem that the relative entropy between pure states is either zero or infinity and therefore useless as a distance measure in this case.

A Dissipation of Relative Entropy by Diffusion Flows

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Given a probability measure, we consider the diffusion flows of probability measures associated with the partial differential equation (PDE) of Fokker–Planck. Our flows of the probability measures are defined as the solution of the Fokker–Planck equation

The holographic dual of Rényi relative entropy

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
The relative entropy is a measure of the distinguishability of two quantum states. A great deal of progress has been made in the study of the relative entropy between an excited state and the vacuum state of a conformal field theory (CFT) reduced to a ...

Observational Modeling of the Kolmogorov-Sinai Entropy [PDF]

open access: yesSahand Communications in Mathematical Analysis, 2019
In this paper, Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy is studied using mathematical modeling of an observer $ Theta $. The relative entropy of a sub-$ sigma_Theta $-algebra having finite atoms is defined and then   the ergodic properties of relative  semi-dynamical ...

Entropy Evaluation Based on Value Validity

open access: yesEntropy, 2014
Besides its importance in statistical physics and information theory, the Boltzmann-Shannon entropy S has become one of the most widely used and misused summary measures of various attributes (characteristics) in diverse fields of study. It has also been

Field Theory Entropy, the $H$-theorem and the Renormalization Group [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We consider entropy and relative entropy in Field theory and establish relevant monotonicity properties with respect to the couplings. The relative entropy in a field theory with a hierarchy of renormalization group fixed points ranks the fixed points ...

Financial Burden Associated With Hospitalisation Among Families of Childhood Brain Tumours in Australia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours
