Short communication: Predicting cation exchange capacity from hygroscopic moisture in agricultural soils of Western Europe

open access: yesSpanish Journal of Agricultural Research, 2015
Soil cation exchange capacity (CEC) depends on the extent and negative charge density of surfaces of soil mineral and organic components. Soil water sorption also depends on the extent of such surfaces, giving thus way to significant relationships ...

A Microwave System for Relative Humidity Measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This paper deals with a microwave hygrometer that is based on the sensitivity of air permettivity to humidity. The hygrometer embeds a microwave generator which feeds two different channels.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Precipitation and relative humidity favours tree growth while air temperature and relative humidity respectively drive winter stem shrinkage and expansion

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change
Forest ecosystems have a major role in sequestering atmospheric CO2 and as such, their resilience is of upmost importance. In the boreal forest, trees grow only during a short period when air temperature is favourable.

Diurnal variation in temperature and humidity profile within sesamum canopy and its impact on growth process under different dates of sowing

open access: yesJournal of Agrometeorology, 2010
An experiment laid out in simple RBD combined over dates of sowing (22nd Feb–D1, 7th March–D2 and 22nd March–D3) and varieties (V1–BT-894-3, V2–Rama and V3–BT-893-1) was carried out in three successive years (2004, 2005 and 2006) at BCKV, W. B.

Effects of Absolute Humidity, Relative Humidity, Temperature, and Wind Speed on Influenza Activity in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2019
This study examined the relationship between environmental factors and the occurrence of influenza in general. Since the seasonality of influenza A and B viruses is different in most temperate climates, we also examined each influenza virus separately ...

Relative Humidity as an Indicator for Cloud Formation over Heterogeneous land surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The influence of land surface heterogeneity on potential cloud formation is investigated using relative humidity as an indicator. This is done by performing numerical experiments using a large-eddy simulation model (LES).

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Controlled atmospheres against insect pests in museums: a review and some considerations

open access: yesJournal of Entomological and Acarological Research, 2011
Controlled atmospheres using nitrogen represent a safe and effective method for both objects and human health. The use of this technique against pests in museums has received an increasing amount of interest during the last twenty years. This paper looks
