Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Monte Carlo Simulations for the Estimation of the Effective Permeability of Mixed-Matrix Membranes

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
Recent years have seen the explosive development of mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) for a myriad of applications. In gas separation, it is desired to concurrently enhance the permeability, selectivity and physicochemical properties of the membrane. To help

Influence of Capillary Pressure on Estimation of Relative Permeability for Immiscible WAG Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Capillary pressure is one of the important parameters when describing flow in porous media. This parameter is nevertheless in some cases neglected, especially if no reliable measured data is available.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and High-Speed Centrifugation for Gas-Water Relative Permeability Curve of Low-Permeability and Tight Sandstone [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Gas-water relative permeability curve is the foundation of gas reservoir dynamic analysis and numerical simulation. It is generally obtained through gas displacing water experiment.

Size-Dependent Bruggeman Approach for Dielectric-Magnetic Composite Materials

open access: yes, 2004
Expressions arising from the Bruggeman approach for the homogenization of dielectric-magnetic composite materials, without ignoring the sizes of the spherical particles, are presented. These expressions exhibit the proper limit behavior.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

ADJUSTING EXPERIMENTAL SET-UP IMPROVES RELATIVE PERMEABILITY RELIABILITY

open access: yesCT&F Ciencia, Tecnología & Futuro, 2003
An improved experimental set-up for relative permeability measurement and interpretation methodology has been developed. The improvement was aimed at two objectives: to modify the equipment in order to obtain more reliable experimental data and to ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
