Structural reliability and its sensitivity

Civil Engineering and Environmental Systems, 1985
Abstract The paper shows that a least-biased estimate of the failure probability of a structural component or structure with random loads and strengths may be calculated by using the maximum entropy distribution. The method permits the probability of failure to be calculated directly from statistical load and strength data without the need to choose ...

Reliability in Checking Liquid Penetrant Sensitivity

1988

Computational methods for efficient structural reliability and reliability sensitivity analysis

AIAA Journal, 1993
This paper presents recent developments in efficient structural reliability analysis methods. The paper proposes an efficient, adaptive importance sampling (AIS) method that can be used to compute reliability and reliability sensitivities. The AIS approach uses a sampling density that is proportional to the joint PDF of the random variables.

Reliability estimation and sensitivity testing

Microelectronics Reliability, 1975
Abstract Reliability requirements are sometimes expressed as that at a particular stress level, say x o , the failure probability of a device should not exceed p o . Considered here are the collection and statistical analysis of data by which one can assess whether the requirement is met.

Reliability sensitivity-based correlation coefficient calculation in structural reliability analysis

Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2012
The correlation coefficients of random variables of mechanical structures are generally chosen with experience or even ignored, which cannot actually reflect the effects of parameter uncertainties on reliability. To discuss the selection problem of the correlation coefficients from the reliability-based sensitivity point of view, the theory principle ...

Reliability-based sensitivity analysis of ships

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part M: Journal of Engineering for the Maritime Environment, 2005
Failure of a ship hull girder is a very important failure mode, which is normally catastrophic and has severe consequences. It is of great importance to predict accurately the ultimate strength of a hull girder so that an adequate but not excessive safety margin for this failure can be ensured in the ship design.

How Reliable Is Moral Sensitivity?

Common Knowledge, 2010
This response to “Morality or Moralism?” by Emilie Hache and Bruno Latour takes issue with their distinction between two kinds of morality. Hache and Latour see a difference between morality as sensitivity and morality as principled claims regarding moral considerability.

Sensitivity of reliability of logic gates

2017 International Conference on Electrical and Computing Technologies and Applications (ICECTA), 2017
Ever-shrinking dimensions of transistors in CMOS have caused the failure rates/probabilities to increase dramatically. Monte Carlo simulations are one way of estimation the failure probabilities, however, such simulations tend to be very time-consuming. A much speedier alternative is to use models for the estimation.

Sensitivity Analysis for the System Reliability Function

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 1991
Sensitivity analysis is an integral part of virtually every study of system reliability. This paper describes a Monte Carlo sampling plan for estimating this sensitivity in system reliability to changes in component reliabilities. The unique feature of the approach is that sample data collected on K independent replications using a specified component ...

Sensitivity, Reliability and Consumer Taste Testing

Journal of Marketing Research, 1966
This article concerns the importance, in consumer taste tests, of screening respondents for sensitivity and reliability. A methodological approach involving triad comparisons is described as one procedure which proved convenient and efficient.
