Ductile B2 Intermetallics‐Driven Strength‐Ductility Synergy in Heterolaminated Multi‐Principal Element Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intrinsic phase toughening transforms a brittle B2 intermetallic into a plastically deformable, load‐bearing phase, while a heterogeneous laminated architecture suppresses strain localization and interface cracking. The synergy between ductile intermetallics and mesoscale heterogeneity establishes a general design strategy for breaking the long ...

NNexus Reloaded

open access: yes, 2014
Interlinking knowledge is one of the cornerstones of online collaboration. While wiki systems typically rely on links supplied by authors, in the early 2000s the mathematics encyclopedia at PlanetMath.org introduced a feature that provides automatic linking for previously defined concepts.

Palaeoproteomic Deconvolution of Physical and Genetic Collagen Mixtures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ClassiCOL_v2 uses a novel “peptide patching” framework that treats any collagen sample as a patchwork of peptide sequences derived from phylogenetically related species. This allows the algorithm to simultaneously resolve two previously intractable problems: multi‐species samples and/or database deficiencies.

Bio‐Inspired Gradient Heterogeneous Architectures for Ultrasensitive and Robust Strain Sensors via Programmable Crack Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the insect campaniform sensillum, a heterogeneous bilayer strain sensor is developed based on a unique impedance mismatch and three‐dimensional structural dynamic percolation strategy. The sensor enables real‐time multi‐joint teleoperation of three joints and the gripper using a six‐degree‐of‐freedom robotic‐arm platform.

pyDMS: A Python package for the determination of physics‐informed dual‐mode sorption (DMS) parameters

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Sorption in glassy polymer membranes is commonly modeled with the dual‐mode sorption (DMS) model. Fitting the DMS model to sorption isotherms presents challenges, as multiple parameter sets may prove satisfactory. This work presents pyDMS, an open‐source Python package for the computation of DMS parameters obtained via a physics‐informed ...

The ISOcat Registry Reloaded [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The linguistics community is building a metadata-based infrastructure for the description of its research data and tools. At its core is the ISOcat registry, a collaborative platform to hold a (to be standardized) set of data categories (i.e., field descriptors). Descriptors have definitions in natural language and little explicit interrelations.

Outcomes of Capsular Plication as Part of Hip Arthroscopic Management for Surgically Identified Microinstability Are Comparable to Outcomes in Matched Controls

open access: yesArthroscopy, EarlyView.
Purpose To compare 2‐year minimum outcomes of hip arthroscopic management with capsular plication in patients with microinstability with propensity‐matched controls. Methods We searched primary hip arthroscopies undertaken between August 2009 and December 2020 from a single‐surgeon database, excluding those with lateral center‐edge angle <18°, for ...

Porous Ag/NiO Nanosheet Catalysts With Electronic Metal–Support Interaction for Efficient Soot Oxidation via a NOx‐Assisted Mechanism

open access: yesCarbon and Hydrogen, EarlyView.
Ag nanoparticles dispersed on porous NiO nanosheets via GBMR method deliver superior soot oxidation performance at 359°C, where Ag–NiO interaction promotes interfacial oxygen activation and NOx‐assisted mechanism, offering design principles for advanced emission control technologies.

Scientific Discovery Reloaded [PDF]

open access: yesTopoi, 2017
The way scientific discovery has been conceptualized has changed drastically in the last few decades: its relation to logic, inference, methods, and evolution has been deeply reloaded. The ‘philosophical matrix’ moulded by logical empiricism and analytical tradition has been challenged by the ‘friends of discovery’, who opened up the way to a rational ...
