Deteriorated Hysteresis Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns With Lap‐Spliced Circular Hoop Reinforcement

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Five lap‐spliced circular hoop (CH) concrete bridge columns, designed in accordance with the current Japanese bridge design code and Taiwan bridge design practice, were tested in this study to investigate the effects of longitudinal reinforcement and aspect ratios on deteriorated hysteresis behavior.

Application of the Tecnomatix Plant Simulation Program to Modelling the Handling of Ocean Containers using the AGV System

open access: yesNaše More (Dubrovnik), 2018
AGV systems, gradually making their way into individual logistics processes, represent an important tool for handling different types of cargo. Since their initial start in the domain of small handling units, their use has been incrementally finding its ...

Managing and visualising geochemical data for tephra correlation with the IntChron Integration Tool

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT There is now a wealth of glass‐shard geochemical data for volcanic ash (tephra) layers from a wide range of volcanoes and eruptions, providing invaluable datasets for tephrochronology. However, compilation of published data to assess tephra correlations leads to large files and requires careful management.

An Elasto–Plastic Hydro–Mechanical Model for Analyzing the Swelling Behavior of Heterogeneous Clay–Sulfate Rocks

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Swelling of clay‐sulfate rocks is a concern in geotechnical engineering that can damage infrastructure. In the historic town of Staufen in southwest Germany, geothermal drilling into a swellable anhydrite‐bearing clay formation resulted in water inflow and subsequent swelling, triggering ground heave and damage to more than 250 houses.

SAD-B Phosphorylation of CAST Controls Active Zone Vesicle Recycling for Synaptic Depression

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Short-term synaptic depression (STD) is a common form of activity-dependent plasticity observed widely in the nervous system. Few molecular pathways that control STD have been described, but the active zone (AZ) release apparatus provides a possible link

The Wage Curve Reloaded [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper provides evidence for the existence of a wage curve – a micro-econometric association between the level of pay and the local unemployment rate – in modern U.S. data. Consistent with recent evidence from more than 40 other countries, the wage curve in the United States has a long-run elasticity of approximately -0.1.

Serum elemental profile‐based machine learning models for Alzheimer's disease identification and cognitive score prediction

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Serum elemental profiling combined with machine learning supports exploratory Alzheimer's disease (AD) identification and cognitive score prediction. In this retrospective cross‐sectional study, 874 participants from the BANC‐PUMC, including cognitively normal controls and patients with AD, were analyzed.

Eilenberg-Kelly Reloaded

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Theoretical Computer Science, 2020
Abstract The Eilenberg-Kelly theorem states that a category C with an object I and two functors ⊗ : C × C → C and ⊸ : C op × C → C related by an adjunction − ⊗ B ⊣ B ⊸ − natural in B is monoidal iff it is closed and moreover the adjunction holds internally.

UAV‐Based Precision Seed Dropping for Automated Reforestation

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wildfires and deforestation pose significant threats to forest ecosystems, motivating scalable methods for reforestation beyond labor‐intensive cultivation of native forest seedlings in nurseries. To enable large‐scale direct seeding of native species, this paper presents the design, analysis, and field evaluation of a UAV‐based seed‐dropping ...
