An Efficient Algorithm for REML in Heteroscedastic Regression [PDF]
This article considers REML (residual or restricted maximum likelihood) estimation for heteroscedastic linear models. An explicit algorithm is given for REML scoring which yields the REML estimates together with their standard errors and likelihood values.

Fixed and Random Effects Selection by REML and Pathwise Coordinate Optimization [PDF]
We propose a two-stage model selection procedure for the linear mixed-effects models. The procedure consists of two steps: First, penalized restricted log-likelihood is used to select the random effects, and this is done by adopting a Newton-type algorithm.

Explicit Effects and Effect Constraints in ReML [PDF]
An important aspect of building robust systems that execute on dedicated hardware and perhaps in constrained environments is to control and manage the effects performed by program code. We present ReML, a higher-order statically-typed functional language, which allows programmers to be explicit about the effects performed by program code and ...

Variational Bayesian Parameter Estimation Techniques for the General Linear Model
Variational Bayes (VB), variational maximum likelihood (VML), restricted maximum likelihood (ReML), and maximum likelihood (ML) are cornerstone parametric statistical estimation techniques in the analysis of functional neuroimaging data.

Genotypic selection of advanced potato clones by REML/BLUP [PDF]
ABSTRACT Potato genotypes were evaluated in their performance, according to the genotype values for tuber yield traits. The experiments were carried out in Canoinhas and Pelotas, Brazil, in spring 2014. Eleven advanced clones and two commercial cultivars (Agata and Asterix) (check cultivars) were evaluated.

Stochastic Lanczos estimation of genomic variance components for linear mixed-effects models
Background Linear mixed-effects models (LMM) are a leading method in conducting genome-wide association studies (GWAS) but require residual maximum likelihood (REML) estimation of variance components, which is computationally demanding. Previous work has
