Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Association of remnant cholesterol with new-onset hypertension among middle-aged and older adults in China

open access: yesScientific Reports
Although remnant cholesterol has been associated with cardiovascular disease, the risk of remnant cholesterol and blood pressure remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between remnant cholesterol and new-onset hypertension.

Remnant cholesterol and all-cause mortality risk: findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2003-2015

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
AimsCholesterol carried in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, also called remnant cholesterol, is increasingly acknowledged as an important causal risk factor for atherosclerosis.

Remnant cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes: a nationwide longitudinal cohort study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2022
Background Elevated remnant cholesterol (remnant-C) is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD); however, whether this notion applies to the East Asian population with type 2 diabetes (T2D) has not been established.

The McCance Brain Care Score and Mortality: Evidence From a Large‐Scale Population‐Based Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives This study aimed to examine the relationship between the McCance Brain Care Score (BCS) and mortality in the general population. Methods We conducted a prospective, population‐based cohort study using data from the UK Biobank. Participants with complete data enabling calculation of BCS and full mortality information were included ...

Discordance Between Triglycerides, Remnant Cholesterol and Systemic Inflammation in Patients with Schizophrenia

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background/Objectives: Hypertriglyceridaemia and systemic inflammation are prevalent in patients with schizophrenia and contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Although elevated triglycerides (TGs) and remnant cholesterol are linked to

Plasma levels of remnant particles are determined in part by variation in the APOC3 gene insulin response element and the APOCI–APOE cluster

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
Remnant particles of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (RLP) are known to be a strong predictor of atherogenicity. The serum concentrations of remnant-like particle triglyceride (RLPTG) and remnant-like particle cholesterol (RLPC) have been determined in a ...

ApoE gene therapy: an overview and update [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Atherosclerosis remains the leading cause of death in industrialized societies. Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is an attractive candidate to treat hypercholesterolemia and coronary heart disease, as it is a circulating protein with pleiotropic ...

Determination of Inter-Phase Line Tension in Langmuir Films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A Langmuir film is a molecularly thin film on the surface of a fluid; we study the evolution of a Langmuir film with two co-existing fluid phases driven by an inter-phase line tension and damped by the viscous drag of the underlying subfluid ...
