Soil removal as a rate process

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1964
AbstractThe rate of soil removal during multiple cycle washing has been studied for three artificially soiled cotton test cloths. Results are considered in relation to a soil removal rate concept proposed some years ago by Vaughn, Vittone, and Smith. It is shown that the rate of removal for these soils, when washed in the Terg‐O‐Tometer with a built ...

Phytoremediation removal rates of benzene, toluene, and chlorobenzene

International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2018
Phytoremediation is a sustainable remedial approach, although performance efficacy is rarely reported. In this study, we assessed a phytoremediation plot treating benzene, toluene, and chlorobenzene. A comparison of the calculated phytoremediation removal rate with estimates of onsite contaminant mass was used to forecast cleanup periods.

Empirical analysis of the removal rate of periphyton by grazers

Oecologia, 1995
To establish a general model for the removal rate of periphyton by grazers, we identified 27 publications in which removal rates could be estimated from grazer enclosure or exclosure experiments. When all the measurements obtained under different experimental conditions were extracted, these publications provided 107 data points. Multiple regression of

Effect of the rate of heat removal on the rate of frost heaving

Engineering Geology, 1979
Abstract Relations between the rate of frost heaving and the rate of heat removal from the freezing front were examined under the following conditions. While the temperature of the unfrozen part of a sample saturated with water was kept at nearly 0°C throughout an experiment, the temperature of a coolant was reduced automatically at the rate of 4.5°C/

Maximum Rates of Nitrate Removal in a Denitrification Wall

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2005
ABSTRACTDenitrification walls are constructed by mixing a carbon source such as sawdust into soils through which ground water passes. These systems can reduce nitrate inputs to receiving waters by enhancing denitrification. Maximum rates of nitrate removal by denitrification need to be determined for design purposes.

Removal rate model for magnetorheological finishing of glass

Applied Optics, 2007
Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) is a deterministic subaperture polishing process. The process uses a magnetorheological (MR) fluid that consists of micrometer-sized, spherical, magnetic carbonyl iron (CI) particles, nonmagnetic polishing abrasives, water, and stabilizers.

The Rate of Adenocarcinoma in Endoscopically Removed Colorectal Polyps

The American Surgeon™, 2005
The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of cancer in a modern series of colorectal polyps. All pathology reports from colon and rectal polyps from 1999 to 2002 were reviewed. Reports of bowel resections, cancer-free polyps, and polyp-free mucosal biopsies were excluded.

RATES OF CALCIUM CARBONATE REMOVAL FROM SOILS

Canadian Journal of Soil Science, 1988
Mean annual rates of calcium carbonate removal from soils in a subarctic climate estimated from data on two chronosequences of calcareous storm ridges, appeared to be relatively constant through time. Concentrations of dissolved calcium carbonate in the soil solution in the study sites calculated from the rates of weathering of CaCO3 and of water ...

Studies on the maximal hepatic sulfobromophthalein removal rate

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1963
The hepatic removal of BSP from the blood during continuous intravenous infusion was calculated. The technic adopted in these researches has achieved results which complete and partly modify previously published conclusions. By using very variable rates of infusion, the existence of two different patterns could be demonstrated.

Removal rates of dissolved munitions compounds in seawater

Chemosphere, 2013
The historical exposure of coastal marine systems to munitions compounds is of significant concern due to the global distribution of impacted sites and known toxicological effects of nitroaromatics. In order to identify specific coastal regions where persistence of these chemicals should be of concern, it is necessary to experimentally observe their ...
