There are 12 000–17 000 new cases of renal cell carcinoma in the United States per year. Renal cell carcinoma is responsible for 7000 to 9000 deaths annually. Approximately 56% of the cases are localized, 14% are locally advanced, and 30% of patients present with metastatic disease.

Urology, 1991Six cases of renal cell carcinoma in children between seven and nineteen years of age are reported. These patients differ from those with Wilms tumor chiefly in the age of presentation and response to chemotherapy. Radiographically, renal cell carcinoma cannot be distinguished from Wilms tumor.
