PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Demerits of using glycine 1.5% as irrigation fluid for transurethral resection of prostate in patients with severe renal insufficiency [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University
Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) syndrome is a rare but serious complication characterized by fluid absorption, leading to life-threatening complications. Although renal insufficiency is frequently associated with the patients posted for TURP,

Evaluation of oxidative stress biomarkers in patients with chronic renal failure: a case control study

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2010
Background Oxidative stress is related to several diseases, including chronic renal insufficiency. The disequilibrium in the oxidant-antioxidant balance is the result of several metabolic changes.

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

A rare and challenging renal transplant in a child with complex congenital defects - A case report

open access: yesIndian Journal of Transplantation, 2021
Renal insufficiency is a distinct possibility in patients with congenital lower urinary tract abnormalities even though they are managed right from early childhood. Previously, such patients were not considered candidates for renal transplantation due to

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Reversible Renal Insufficiency Secondary to Extrinsic Splenic Compression of the Kidney in a Patient with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2010
While increased renal venous and direct renal parenchymal pressure may cause renal insufficiency, there are no prior reports of hypersplenism secondary to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) doing so.

Association of high blood pressure with renal insufficiency: role of albuminuria, from NHANES, 1999-2006.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundThe relationship between hypertension and kidney disease is complicated. Clinical trials found intense blood pressure control was not associated with alterations in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in all patients but did slow the rate of GFR ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.
