Ovarian Prorenin-Renin-Angiotensin System
Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1987Renin is classically considered to be an enzyme that is synthesized by the kidneys and secreted into the circulation where it affects angiotensin production. We review here recent evidence that suggests the existence of an extra-renal renin system, the ovarian prorenin-renin-angiotensin system, which may be linked to reproductive function.

The rennin-angiotensin system (RAS) regulates blood pressure, fluid volume, and sodium and potassium balance (Ferrario and Strawn 2006). Dysregulation of RAS system is implicated in cardiovascular disease – hypertension, atherosclerosis, left ventricular hypertrophy, myocardial infarction, stroke, congestive heart failure – and renal disease (reviewed ...

The ovarian renin-angiotensin system
Regulatory Peptides, 1994We present a review that considers the regulation of ovarian function by the ovarian renin-angiotensin system. Evidence is presented that shows the ovarian renin-angiotensin system can regulate normal ovarian function by paracrine and intracrine mechanisms.

Renin-Angiotensin System in Diabetes
Protein & Peptide Letters, 2017The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has two different axes, the classical one with the effector peptide angiotensin II and the new one with the effector peptide angiotensin (1-7). Both peptides have been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and its consequences, nephropathy, retinopathy and cardiomyopathy in animal models and ...

The Pulmonary Renin-Angiotensin System
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2003The circulating renin-angiotensin system (RAS) has a well-described role in circulatory homeostasis. Recently, local tissue-based RAS have also been described which appear to play a key role in the injury/repair response. The expression of RAS components and the elevation of angiotensin converting enzyme in a number of interstitial lung diseases ...

Renin is a key enzyme in the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) which controls the blood pressure and electrolyte balance. By numerous studies on RAS and structures of renin and prorenin, the determination of three-dimensional structure for renin has been thought to be important in the rational approach to the drug design for antihypertensives.

The Adrenal Renin/Angiotensin System
1995In mammals, the adrenals are paired glands lying anterior to the kidney, having a combined wet weight approximately 0.1%–0.2% of the total body weight. Histologically, the cells of the outer part of the gland, the cortex, which entirely surround the inner medulla, are arranged as three major layers, or zones, organized as concentric shells.
