Behavioural responses of peach potato aphid, Myzus persicae Sulzer (Hemiptera: Aphididae), to entomopathogenic fungi infected conspecifics

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Myzus persicae showed no detectable behavioural response to Beauveria bassiana‐colonised agar alone. Aphids spent significantly more time in odour fields containing EPF‐infected conspecifics than healthy aphids, agar or blank air. EPF infection may alter host‐associated odours, suggesting pathogen‐mediated cues could influence aphid behaviour and ...

Comparing verbenone‐based repellents for ambrosia beetle management in eastern apple orchards

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Non‐native ambrosia beetles (Xylosandrus germanus, X. crassiusculus, Anisandrus maiche) damage high‐density apple orchards across the eastern United States, motivating the search for selective, semiochemical‐based repellent strategies. Across Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania, three verbenone formulations, sachets, SPLAT® VERB and a test SPLAT ...

Climatic factors, landscape composition and host plant traits co‐drive fruit infestation of unmanaged walnut trees by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa (Cresson, 1929) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The study examined multiscale factors influencing walnut fruit infestations by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa. Infestation rates increased with fruit size, host tree abundance, grasslands, hedgerows and temperatures, but decreased with anthropogenic habitats and heavy spring rainfall.
