Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Buffer zone water repellency: effects of the management practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Water repellency index R was measured in a heavy clay and a sandy loam, used as arable land or buffer zone (BZ). Further, effect of management practise and ageing of BZs were studied.

In Vitro Termiticidal Activity of Medicinal Plant Essential Oils Against Microcerotermes crassus

open access: yesInsects
Termites are destructive structural pests causing significant economic losses worldwide. Although synthetic termiticides are effective, their extensive use raises environmental and health concerns, highlighting the need for safer, sustainable ...

Repellency and Composition of Essential Oils of Selected Ethnobotanical Plants Used in Western Kenya against Bites of Anopheles gambiae Sensu Stricto

open access: yes, 2020
The essential oils of Ocimum gratissimum Linn, Hyptis suaveolens (L) Poit and Vitex keniensis, which are used traditionally in Western Kenya for personal and space protection against mosquito bites, were screened for repellence against Anopheles gambiae ...

The mysterious multi-modal repellency of DEET [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
DEET is the most effective insect repellent available and has been widely used for more than half a century. Here, I review what is known about the olfactory and contact mechanisms of DEET repellency.

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

Behavioural and toxicological responses of Blattella germanica (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae) to monoterpenes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2013
Certain monoterpenes produced by aromatic plants are known to have lethal and sublethal effects on insects. As there is a need to replace conventional pesticides (organophosphates, carbamates, pyrethroids) with biorational pesticides, we evaluated the ...

Water Repellency of Soils under Burned Sagebrush

open access: yes, 1973
Burning of sagebrush produces water repellency in soils. Maximum repellency occurs at soil temperatures between 1400 and 1800 degrees F. The field test indicated that repellency is produced as a result of the burning of the sagebrush leaf mulch under the

Drop‐Location‐Insensitive Droplet‐Based Electricity Generator Using Polydimethylsiloxane Slippery Covalently Attached Liquid Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Drop‐location sensitivity remains a key barrier to practical droplet‐based electricity generators (DEGs). Here, a polydimethylsiloxane slippery covalently attached liquid (PDMS‐SCAL)‐coated interface promotes droplet sliding instead of splitting or bouncing, allowing stable electricity generation from randomly falling raindrops. The resulting PDMS‐SCAL‐
