Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Unsupervised String Transformation Learning for Entity Consolidation

open access: yes, 2018
Data integration has been a long-standing challenge in data management with many applications. A key step in data integration is entity consolidation. It takes a collection of clusters of duplicate records as input and produces a single "golden record ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Astor: Exploring the Design Space of Generate-and-Validate Program Repair beyond GenProg [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
During last years, researches have proposed novel repair approaches that automatically generate patches for repairing software bugs. Repair approaches can be loosely characterized along the main design philosophy such generate- and-validate or synthesis ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Replacement names for two fossil dreissenids Congeria praebalatonica Miletić-Spajić, 1959 and Congeria elongata Jeanrenaud, 1963 (Bivalvia: Dreissenidae) [PDF]

open access: yesMalacologica Bohemoslovaca
We propose two new replacement names for two fossil dreissenids from Serbia and Romania, as both are unreplaced junior primary homonyms of previously described taxa.

How should thyroid replacement be initiated? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Levothyroxine (LT4) should be used alone as initial replacement for patients with hypothyroidism (strength of recommendation [SOR]: A). The optimal initial dose is 1.6 μg/kg/d for healthy people aged 60 years or younger (SOR: B).
