Counting bacteria in microfluidic devices: Smartphone compatible 'dip-and-test' viable cell quantitation using resazurin amplified detection in microliter capillary arrays.

open access: yesJournal of Microbiological Methods, 2021
Viable bacterial cell counting is fundamental to analytical microbiology and agar plate colony counting remains common yet laborious and slow. Here, we demonstrate two methods for counting bacteria using commercially available microfluidic devices.

Resazurin-based 96-well plate microdilution method for the determination of minimum inhibitory concentration of biosurfactants

open access: yesBiotechnology Letters, 2016
To develop and validate a microdilution method for measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of biosurfactants. A standardized microdilution method including resazurin dye has been developed for measuring the MIC of biosurfactants and its ...

Studies on the Resazurin Test

open access: yesNihon Chikusan Gakkaiho, 1957
1. In the macroscopic resazurin test, an quality inspection of milk could be done by the “one hour test” in which the color change was divided into 7 degrees.2. When 1cc of 1% formalin was added to a test sample, the reduction time was shortened and it took almost 15 min.

Validation of a modified fluorimetric assay for the screening of trichomonacidal drugs

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2012
A fluorimetric microassay that uses a redox dye to determine the viability of the flagellate Trichomonas vaginalis has been optimised to provide a more sensitive method to evaluate potential trichomonacidal compounds.

On the relationship between the observed dynamics of a colorimetric indicator and the nonlinear dynamics of the population growth under study in the case of microbial cultures [PDF]

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Прикладная нелинейная динамика
The resazurin test is one of the most widespread approaches for studying the growth and metabolic activity of microorganisms. It is based on the colour change of the blue indicator, resazurin, to its pink reduced form, resorufin due to the reduction ...

Antibiofilm activity of Streptomyces toxytricini Fz94 against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Biosystems Journal, 2017
Candida albicans is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients worldwide. Biofilm formation by Candida species is a significant virulence factor for disease pathogenesis.

A dynamic resazurin microassay allowing accurate quantification of cells and suitable for acid-forming bacteria.

open access: yesJournal of Microbiological Methods, 2021
A resazurin micro-assay was developed to quantify acidifying bacteria. The resorufin fluorescent signal was measured over time and the determined time to reach the max slope (TMS) was plotted against CFU (colony forming unit) counts.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The performance and costs of XTT, resazurin, MTS and luciferin as viability dyes in in vitro susceptibility testing of Madurella mycetomatis

open access: yesTransactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
Background in vitro susceptibility testing for the non-sporulating fungus Madurella mycetomatis is performed with a hyphal suspension as starting inoculum and a viability dye for endpoint reading.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...
