Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Dynamic Scene 3D Reconstruction of an Uncooperative Resident Space Object

open access: yesAIAA SCITECH 2026 Forum
Characterization of uncooperative Resident Space Objects (RSO) play a crucial role in On-Orbit Servicing (OOS) and Active Debris Removal (ADR) missions to assess the geometry and motion properties. To address the challenges of reconstructing tumbling uncooperative targets, this study evaluates the performance of existing state-of-the-art 3D ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Observational Evidence of a Centi-parsec Supermassive Black Hole Binary Existing in the Nearby Galaxy M81

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Studying a centi-parsec supermassive black hole binary (SMBHB) would allow us to explore a new parameter space in active galactic nuclei, and these objects are also potential sources of gravitational waves.

Instance Segmentation for Feature Recognition on Noncooperative Resident Space Objects

open access: yesJournal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 2022
Active debris removal and unmanned on-orbit servicing missions have gained interest in the last few years, along with the possibility to perform them through the use of an autonomous chasing spacecraft. In this work, new resources are proposed to aid the implementation of guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for satellites devoted to the ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Operational Angular Track Reconstruction in Space Surveillance Radars through an Adaptive Beamforming Approach

open access: yesAerospace
In the last few years, many space surveillance initiatives have started to consider the problem represented by resident space object overpopulation. In particular, the European Space Surveillance and Tracking (EUSST) consortium is in charge of providing ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Conjunction Analysis Software Suite for Space Surveillance and Tracking

open access: yesAerospace
The increasing number of objects in Earth orbit has encouraged the development of space surveillance and tracking (SST) applications. A critical aspect of SST is the identification and characterization of close encounters between pairs of space objects ...
