Evaluation of Residual Chlorine

Journal AWWA, 1935
Ortho-tolidine has been used almost exclusively for the estimation of residual chlorine in water since its standardization in 1913 by Ellms and Houser (1), and its development by Wolman and Enslow in 1918 (2). Prior to that time the then less delicate starch iodine method had been used.

Amperometric Residual Chlorine Recording

Journal AWWA, 1951
MORE than two years have passed since the original installation of a residual chlorine recorder at the Wyandotte filter plant. One year of operation sufficed to convince the plant operators that, at last, an instrument was available for adequate and accurate control of the chlorination process for water purification.

Reduction of chlorinated hydrocarbon residues in swine

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1971
The occurrence of residues of chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides in animal tissue has been well established in the literature. Thomas et al (I); Fahey and Brindley, (2); Entomology Research Division (3) are three authors who reported the contamination of beef tissues resulting from the feeding of treated forage or permitting livestock to forage on ...

Determination of Residual Chlorine Compounds

Journal AWWA, 1951
emphasize the importance of accurate methods of determining concentrations of the various kinds of residual chlorine present. In two recent reviews Palin (1, 2) discusses the various methods which have been proposed and describes a new titration method.

Assessment of some aqueous residual chlorine measurements

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1980
Sodium hypochlorite solutions, filter effluent, plant effluent, and tap water were analyzed by the amperometric titration (AT), residual chlorine electrode, (EL), and DPD ferrous titrimetric (DPD) methods and the results were compared for the range 0.2 to 2.0 ppm residual chlorine.

Free Residual Chlorination in Indiana

Journal AWWA, 1949
The principal source of supply is Flint Lake, 3 miles north of the city, where the 2-mgd. filter plant and the pumping station are located. The lake is approximately 90 acres in area, has a capacity of approximately 400 mil. gal. and is fed by a series of smaller lakes. Four wells are in operation and a new one is being built.

Process for Disposal of Chlorinated Organic Residues

Journal of the Air Pollution Control Association, 1965
A continuous process for the disposal of halogen-containing organic residues has been developed. This process is based on the decomposition of wastes into gaseous byproducts by high temperature reactions with air and steam. The exit gases, which are essentially carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and hydrogen halides, can be scrubbed with water, thereby ...

MINNOWS CAN ACCLIMATE TO TOTAL RESIDUAL CHLORINE

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1995
Abstract Observations in a chlorine-contaminated stream in eastern Tennessee revealed several species of fish in areas where total residual chlorine (TRC) concentrations were often great enough to be lethal, based on the results of other studies.

Chlorinated Hydrocarbon Pesticide Residue in Human Tissues

Archives of Environmental Health: An International Journal, 1970
Multiple tissues from 70 autopsy cases in Tucson, Ariz, during 1967 and 1968 were analyzed for chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticide residues. Levels of dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane (DDT), its dehydrochlorinated metabolic derivative, DDE, and dieldrin are not remarkably different from those found in other localities in the United States or from those ...
