Fast demagnetization method for power transformers combined with residual flux measurement

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
When power transformers are re-energized, the inrush current may be generated and damage electrical equipment. In order to suppress the generation of serious inrush current, the residual flux (RF) in the power transformer core needs to be eliminated ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The influence of river discharge on energy transport in estuaries and its implication for the equilibrium bed profile

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
In this paper, we revisit the classical energy transport equation for pure tidal flows in estuaries by including the effects of residual water level and freshwater discharge.

A semi-empirical model of the energy balance closure in the surface layer.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
It has been hypothesized that the energy balance closure problem of single-tower eddy-covariance measurements is linked to large-scale turbulent transport. In order to shed light on this problem, we investigate the functional dependence of the normalized

Flux-vector splitting and Runge-Kutta methods for the Euler equations [PDF]

open access: yes
Runge-Kutta schemes have been used as a method of solving the Euler equations exterior to an airfoil. In the past this has been coupled with central differences and an artificial vesocity in space.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Analysis of Spatial Discretization Error Estimators Implemented in ARES Transport Code for SN Equations

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2018
The discrete ordinates method (SN) is one of the mainstream methods for neutral particle transport calculations. Assessing the quality of the numerical solution and controlling the discrete error are essential parts of large-scale high-fidelity ...

On the Connection between Residual Distribution Schemes and Flux Reconstruction

open access: yes, 2018
In this short paper, we are considering the connection between the \emph{Residual Distribution Schemes} (RD) and the \emph{Flux Reconstruction} (FR) approach. We demonstrate that flux reconstruction can be recast into the RD framework and vice versa. Because of this close connection we are able to apply known results from RD schemes to FR methods.
