Fundamental Definitions in Residual Stress Analysis and Their Implications

Abstract The article provides detailed discussion on the definitions and implications for each of these seven subjects in residual stress analysis: preliminary concepts; loading and stress; displacement, deformation, and strain; constitutive equations and linear elasticity; material descriptors; methods; and diffraction.

Positive definiteness of the elasticity tensor of a residually stressed material

Journal of Elasticity, 1995
This paper is concerned with the linear theory of hyperelastic materials that support a residual stress. The term residual stress is used to refer to an equilibrated stress field in the reference configuration with vanishing associated tractions. In general, the residual stress is not uniform.
