Unlocking the application potential of superabsorbent polymers in landfill leachate treatment

open access: yesPolymer Testing
The leachate generation is an inevitable consequence of landfill disposal, and thus it is critically important to acquire effective approach to preventing contamination of the underlying soils and groundwater aquifers. Currently, there is no consensus on

Development of functional resins with kafirin obtained with a food-compatible method for application in the baking industry

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food, 2022
The evaluation of different methods for kafirin extraction was made to obtain techno-functional concentrates from two sorghum cultivars. The concentrates were rheologically evaluated in a “dough-like” resin system to assess their potential as a gluten ...

Resin-to-Resin Circularity in Chemical Recycling of Dicyclopentadiene-Based Cycloolefin Resins [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society
Cycloolefin resins (CORs) comprising dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) cross-linkers are high performance thermosets for diverse single-use applications. If it were possible to carry out deconstruction of DCPD thermosets through exclusive reformation of the cyclopentene ring in DCPD, then linear polyDCPD chains could re-enter subsequent manufacturing cycles and

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Surface discharge imaging in presence of deposited space charges in non‐uniform DC electric field

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2021
An investigation is made of the influence of an accumulated charge sprinkled on the surface of an epoxy resin plate in corona mode on partial discharge inception and its forms as analyzed by optical imaging at DC voltage. The effects of the polarities of

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Partial discharge characteristics of an air gap defect in the epoxy resin of a saturable reactor under an exponential decay pulse voltage

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2020
Saturable reactor insulation is currently stressed by an exponential decay pulse voltage under normal operating conditions. The partial discharge (PD) characteristics of epoxy resin under an exponential decay pulse voltage were studied here and were ...

In‐situ observation of electrical tree evolution in epoxy dielectrics with internal cracks

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2021
Gas‐filled internal crack might appear in thermoset materials like epoxy resin during the equipment manufacturing, which would become a vulnerable local region to initiate the electrical tree, thus prone to cause insulation failure. The withstand voltage
