Resistance to leaf rust in cultivars and wheat lines from Paraguay
Leaf rust (LR) of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), caused by the fungus Puccinia triticina Eriks, is one of the most important diseases in Paraguay, the Southern Cone of America and worldwide.

Diversity analysis of Streptomycetes and associated phosphotranspherase genes in soil [PDF]
An attempt was made to verify the observation that Streptomyces griseus was prevalent in soil based on isolation work. A genus-specific PCR was developed for Streptomyces based on the housekeeping gene atpD and used to investigate species diversity ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Septoria tritici blotch is caused by the fungus Zymoseptoria tritici and poses a major threat to wheat productivity. There are over 20 mapped loci in wheat that confer strong (gene-for-gene) resistance against this pathogen, but the corresponding genes ...

Efficacy and mapping of resistance to Mycosphaerella graminicola in wheat
Wheat is the most important food and feed crop, contributing about 19% of the required human dietary energy. The annual growth rate of the global cereal production -including wheat- is below one per cent.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Rapid microarray-based method for monitoring of all currently known single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with parasite resistance to antimalaria drugs. [PDF]
Parasite drug resistance is partly conferred by single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and monitoring them has been proposed as an alternative to monitoring drug resistance.
